'The Secret Boatyard'
Creative Marine have established a reputation as being quality craftsmen, using traditional techniques to create an authentic reproduction of classic elegance.
Formed in 1995 as a boatbuilding partnership of Simon Read and Roy Lawson after the demise of the Steam and Electric Launch Company and ex-employees of this Company they felt they could use their skills and knowledge of electric craft to make a success of their own business.
Simon
served an apprenticeship in boatbuilding, originally building sea going long
keeled yachts. He obtained the Landamores Shield for Apprentice of the
Year at the Anglia Marine Group Training Association. Further training was
obtained in boat restoration and new wooden boat building on a variety of craft
including racing dinghies, yachts, launches and even racing power boats.
Roy trained at the International Boatbuilding Training Centre in Oulton Broad, Norfolk and has worked in several boatyards in Norfolk as well as having experience in exhibition and interior design/shop fitting.
Julia (Roy's wife) joined Creative Marine at the end of 2000 to be in charge of the administration side of the business and also to help out in the workshop. She previously worked for 14 years in a leading Estate Agents.
